Nordic Group was selected by the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) as a qualified stream restoration contractor. NORDIC worked directly with an onsite engineer from the Cook Co. SWCD. NORDIC utilized specialty equipment to work in and along the confined riverbed to minimize damage to other critical natural features. This project involved creating 150 boulder step pools and over 180 log step pools in a tributary for the Poplar River. NORDIC created these pools with rock and wood materials found within the project site. Work created additional fish habitat and provided better sediment control, as well as created new sloped channels to the stream. Vegetation was reestablished using natural area planting.
